Senators sign Ricard Persson

KANATA, Ont., July 12 -- The Ottawa Senators added depth to the blue line Wednesday by signing unrestricted free agent defenseman Ricard Persson to a multi-year contract.

Ottawa also signed free agent center Todd White, a Kanata native, to a multi-year pact.

Persson, who turns 31 next month, had eight assists and 38 penalty minutes in 41 games for the St. Louis Blues last season.

He missed 17 games with a knee injury and 12 with a shoulder ailment before recording his first career playoff goal against San Jose in Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinals.

In 162 NHL games with New Jersey and St. Louis, the 6-1, 201-pound Persson has seven goals and 29 assists.

White, 25, played for four teams last season, scoring one goal in four games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. He spent most of the season in the minors with Cleveland of the IHL and Philadelphia of the AHL, combining for 40 goals and 54 assists in 74 games.
