DETROIT, July 10 -- Bad boy rapper Eminem's wife reportedly attempted suicide Friday night after her husband's concert in nearby Auburn Hills, Mich.
The Detroit Free Press Monday said police were called to the couple's home in suburban Sterling Heights, Mich., and that a 25-year-old resident was treated at General Hospital in Mount Clemens and released.
Dennis Dennehy, media and artist relations director for Interscope Records, told the newspaper Kim Mathers, the wife of the rapper whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, had tried to take her own life.
The Detroit News said Eminem's 14-year-old half-brother Nate Samra-Mathers, told the rapper's grandmother that Kim slit her wrists five times on both arms. The News said Eminem and his mother, Debbie Mathers-Briggs, are involved in a bitter custody fight over Nate.
An uncle said Kim attended Eminem's concert at the Palace of Auburn Hills and an after-party Friday night but police said the rapper was not home at the time of the suicide attempt.
The Grammy Award winning rapper has had a rocky relationship with his wife. Eminem, 27, recorded two songs on hit CDs in which Kim dies a violent death. He has a tombstone tattoo on hischest that reads: "KIM: Rot in Pieces."
The suicide attempt is the latest in a series of scary incidents involving the popular rap star. Eminem was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing on assault and weapons charges for threatening a man he allegedly saw kiss his wife last month in the parking lot of a nightclub in Warren, Mich. He allegedly struck the man with an unloaded handgun.
Kim was charged with disturbing the peace.
Eminem also is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and brandishing a weapon in public, a misdemeanor, for threatening an associate of the rival rap group, Insane Clown Posse, outside a stereo store in Royal Oak, Mich., June 4.
Eminem won two Grammys in February for "The Slim Shady LP" and his latest album "The Marshall Mathers LP" is a top-seller.
