Britain's Cook pays last respects to Assad

DAMASCUS, Syria, June 13 -- British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook Tuesday paid his last respects to Syrian President Hafez Assad in the People's Palace in Damascus. Cook, who is leading an official delegation to the funeral, offered his condolences to Assad's son and likely successor, Bashar Assad. The two also held a private discussion.
