Saturday the Fusion fired Wortmann and assistant Nick Megaloudis.

"We have not been pleased with the team's efforts and results so far this season and felt a change needed to be made," Fusion vice president and general manager Doug Hamilton said.

Hudson, a former captain for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League, will coach the team until a permanent replacement is found.

"This demonstrates the commitment from management to our supporters not to tolerate the performance of the team to date," Hamilton said. "I have asked Ray to step in and help the club in the transition. He knows our players well and will do a solid job until a permanent replacement is found."

The Fusion hold the Major League Soccer's worst record at 1-3-4 and have scored a league-low five goals. Their lone win was against the MetroStars in the second match of the season.

Hudson will make his coaching debut against three-time MLS Cup champion D.C. United on Wednesday. He joined the club prior to the start of the season as community front outreach manager. Hudson will be assisted by Eric Eichmann on the sidelines.

Wortmann led the Fusion to the playoffs in each of the franchise's first two seasons but posted only a 21-28-4 record. He was 0-4 in postseason games.
