Murder suspect allegedly used Internet

SAN MARCOS, Texas, April 28 -- A 31-year-old man was jailedFriday on charges of posing as a woman in an Internet chat room and then luring a male Texas A&M student to a deadly rendezvous.

Kenny Wayne Lockwood, 31, of San Antonio, was arrested Thursday at a San Antonio hospital where he was being treated for a unrelated illness, Hays County Sheriff Don Montague said.

Lockwood was charged with murder in the slaying of Kerry Kujawa, 20, of Richmond, Texas, and bail was set at $250,000.

Although investigators will not discuss a motive, they believe Lockwood lured Kujawa to San Antonio after developing a relationship with the student posing as a woman named "Kelly" in the chat room.

"All of our indications at this time lead us to believe Mr. Lockwood is 'Kelly,' Hays County Detective Sam Williams said. "This is an extremely complex case, and although an arrest has been made, there is still an ongoing investigation."

Kujawa left Texas A&M in College Station on April 7 to meet the girl named "Kelly." His body was found April 19 on a ranch near Dripping Springs in Hays County. He had been shot in the back of the head.

One of the more bizarre aspects of the case is that several e-mail messages were sent from "Kelly's" e-mail account to Kujawa's parents and friends after police believe he was killed. They said Kujawa was OK, staying in San Antonio a few more days, and not to worry.

A team of computer experts from the Texas Rangers, the Texas A&M University police force and other agencies say Internet users finally helped them get a break in the investigation.NEWLN:
