AMELIA ISLAND, Fla., April 16 -- Third seed and defending champion Monica Seles and No. 4 Conchita Martinez posted identical straight-set victories in Sunday's semifinals and were to meet later in the final of the Bausch & Lomb Championships.
Seles rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over unseeded Paola Suarez of Argentina and Martinez, the 1995 champion, beat No. 12 Elena Likhovtseva of Russia in the semifinals.
Seles rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Martinez in the semifinals of this tournament last year en route to the final.
After rain caused havoc with the schedule, both Seles and Martinez recorded third-round and quarterfinal wins on Saturday.
Seles has not dropped a set on her way to the final after suffering her worst career loss, 6-0, 6-0, to Martina Hingis at the Ericsson Open. She came back from a broken foot to win her 45th career singles title at Oklahoma City in February.NEWLN:
