Colorado 5, St. Louis 1

DENVER, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Joe Sakic celebrated his return to lineup by recording his 1,000th career point Monday night as the Colorado Avalanche continued their home success over the St. Louis Blues, 5-1.

After missing the last 13 games with a rib injury, Sakic made his presence felt in the second period when he assisted on Chris Dingman's goal that gave the Avalanche a 3-1 advantage.

Sakic, who is the team's captain, became the 56th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points and the 14th to accomplish the feat with same team. He was drafted with the 15th overall pick in the 1987 draft by the then-Quebec Nordiques.

Alex Tanguay, Chris Drury, Stephane Yelle and Adam Foote also scored for the Avalanche, who are 6-0-1 in their last seven home meetings with St. Louis. Colorado had blanked the Blues four straight times at home before tonight.

Chris Pronger scored the lone goal for St. Louis, which has not won in Colorado since Dec. 6, 1996.NEWLN:-- --
