Ratliff on IL, Mohammed activated

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 20 -- The Philadelphia 76ers placed forward Theo Ratliff back on the injured list Monday with a sprained left ankle and activated center Nazr Mohammed.

Ratliff, 26, spent the first six games of the season on the injured list with a stress fracture of his left ankle suffered during training camp.

The 6-10 shot-blocker played in seven games before soreness in the ankle forced him to sit out 11 more contests from November 26-December 15. Ratliff returned again on Friday against Chicago but aggravated the injury in Saturday's loss at Detroit, scoring only five points in 14 minutes.

A 1995 first-round pick of Detroit, Ratliff was acquired by the 76ers in December 1997 and signed a six-year, $60 million deal prior to last season.

He contributed 11.2 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game last season, his fourth in the NBA and his first as a full-time starter. He played in all 50 games and finished third in the league with 3.0 blocks per game.

Mohammed, who had been sidelined since December 4 with a back injury, is averaging 2.8 and 2.4 rebounds in 12 games this season, his second in the NBA.
