NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania, March 31 -- A Mauritanian opposition leader has reiterated calls for an international investigation into the alleged dumping of Israeli nuclear waste in the Mauritanian desert. Ahmed Wald Dada, head of the Opposition Party Front in Mauritania, made his call a day after a court declared him innocent of charges related to spreading rumors about dumping Israeli nuclear waste in Mauritania.
Dada described the court ruling as 'a victory of justice' but said he expected to face 'harassments that would continue.' Dada and a member of his front were arrested Dec. 16 on charges of inciting violence as well as harming Mauritania's reputation and interests by spreading rumors about dumping Israeli nuclear waste in the country. They were later released but faced trial that ended Tuesday with their acquittal. ---
