Three members of band Intocable die

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 1 -- Three members of the Texas band Intocable are dead and six others injured after the van in which they were travelling at high speed tipped over in a highway in northern Mexico, the Mexican Police said. The musicians were traveling from their hometown of Zapata, Texas, to Monterrey, Mexico, where they were expected to perform Sunday.

Luis Garcia Delgado, 25, and Silvestre Rodriguez, 27, died at the scene, while Jose Angel Gonzalez died on the way to a hospital in Monterrey miles 590 miles (950 km) northeast of Mexico City. Vocalist-accordionist Ricardo 'Ricky' Munoz Solis, 23, Rene Martinez Santos, 26, Sergio Serna, 24, Daniel Sanchez, 26, along with two other unidentified musicians were also transferred to a hospital in Monterrey. Mexican Federal Police Commander Jesus Garcia Flores said speeding was to blame in the accident. Intocable, which records for the American record label EMI Latin, plays a mix of norteno and tejano, two accordion-based musical styles that are most popular among Spanish speakers in U.S. border areas as well as in northern Mexico. ---
