Bucks add veteran Curry

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 22 -- The Milwaukee Bucks, needing some scoring punch off the bench, have signed free agent shooting guard Dell Curry to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not released.

Curry spent the last 10 seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, becoming the team's all-time leading scorer with 9,839 points. But apparently Charlotte felt the 34-year-old veteran was expendable, having signed free agents Derrick Coleman and Eldridge Recasner. Known most for his three-point shooting, Curry has averaged nearly 13 points per game over his 12-year NBA career. He has connected on 40 percent of his shots from beyond the arc (974-for-2,435), ranking 17th on the all-time list in three-pointers made. The 6-5 Curry was named Sixth Man of the Year in 1994, when he averaged a career-best 16.3 points per game. But he endured an injury- plagued 1997-98 campaign, averaging just 9.4 points in 52 games. Curry has been awful in the last two postseasons, averaging just over five points while shooting 38 percent from the floor. But the Bucks were in need of some veteran scoring off the bench with the likely free agent loss of guard Ricky Pierce. Curry should back up emerging star Ray Allen. Milwaukee also signed free agent guard Adonis Jordan to a one-year deal. Jordan, who has not played in the NBA since the 1993-94 campaign, averaged just 5.5 points and 3.8 assists for the CBA's Rockford Lightning last season.
