AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 30 -- Two militant militia members who allegedly plotted an attack on Fort Hood face up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing illegal gun silencers. Bradley Playford Glover, of Kansas, and Michael Leonard Dorsett, of Fort Worth, were caught heavily armed in July 1997 en route to the base, where they believed Communist Chinese were present.
Eight others connected with the Fort Hood plot were also caught in the sweep. When they were stopped at Colorado Bend State Park in San Saba County, about 100 miles west of Fort Hood, Glover and Dorsett had an arsenal of five handguns, two rifles, 1,600 rounds of ammunition, silencers and enough equipment and supplies to make pipe bombs. The Austin-American Statesman today cites an undercover Missouri State Patrol officer who testified the pair believed Communist Chinese were at Fort Hood and they planned to attack them. Sgt. Greg Hug said the pair would have carried out the attack during the annual Fort Hood Freedom Fest on the Fourth of July, when the base is open to the public. Hug infiltrated the Third Continental Congress said the 58-year-old Glover and 43-year-old Dorsett believed Communist troops were being trained at the base and that the United Nations was planning an attack. Jailed Republic of Texas member Richard Frank Keyes, who eluded authorities for months after the 1996 stadoff with state authorities in West Texas was a member of the congress, which once boasted 70 members. Dorsett and Glover formed a more violent splinter group they called Third Continental Congress, adding 'of the united States' with the lowercase 'u.' ---
