Disneyland fires workers over jokes

ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 13 -- Disneyland has reportedly fired several workers for telling unscripted jokes on its famous Jungle Cruise ride. Former Disneyland employee Chad Gordon told the Los Angeles Times that he and at least seven other workers got in trouble for adding more up-to-date references to the amusement park's series of 'kind of passe' scripted jokes.

The 26-year-old Long Beach man said one portion of the amusement park's scripts calls for workers to say, 'It looks like one of the elephants wants to give us a shower,' and that he added, 'Hey, it's Rush Limbaugh. Hey, Rush, don't squirt us, I have Republicans on board.' Disneyland refused to comment directly on the firings, saying the park 'does not make statements regarding personnel issues.' But park spokeswoman Lisa Cappel said, 'Our philosophy is that Disneyland is very much like a theatrical house or stage, which means we view our park as having both on-stage and backstage presence. We entertain our guests with quality family entertainment, and we put on a performance every day. Our goal is to deliver a consistent, quality show daily.' Gordon countered that Disneyland visitors loved their jokes andthat he never heard any complaints about them. ---
