ID4,' 'Scream' win awards

LOS ANGELES, July 22 -- 'Independence Day,' 'Scream' and 'Star Trek: First Contact' have won three awards each at the 23rd annual Saturn Awards in Los Angeles. The awards were presented tonight by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.

'ID4,' last summer's major blockbuster, was named best sci-fi film and also won in the special effects category and best director for Roland Emmerich. 'Scream' was named best horror film. It also won best actress for Neve ('NEHV'') Campbell and best writer for Kevin Williamson. 'Star Trek: First Contact' took home best supporting actor for Brent Spiner, supporting actress for Alice Krige and costume design for Deborah Everton. Eddie Murphy's performance in 'The Nutty Professor' won the best actor Saturn, which was accepted on his behalf by Arsenio Hall. The movie also was honored for makeup by Rick Baker and David Leroy Anderson. 'Dragonheart' was chosen best fantasy film, and 'Fargo' was named best action-adventure-thriller. In the TV categories, 'The X-Files' was voted best network series and Gillian Anderson best actress. Kyle Chandler of 'Early Edition' was chosen best actor, and best syndicated series was 'Outer Limits.' Sylvester Stallone received the academy's lifetime achievement award, and filmmaker Dino De Laurentiis was presented the life career award. ---
