CHICAGO, May 12 -- The mother of fugitive Andrew Cunanan (KOON'- uh-nan) says she believes her son supported his free-spending lifestyle as a 'high-class homosexual prostitute.' Mary Ann Cunanan, who lives in Eureka, Ill., told the Chicago Sun- Times she thinks her son supported himself with money he got from wealthy older men.
He was a 'high class homosexual prostitute,' she said. However, she refused to say how she knew her son was a male prostitute. Cunanan, 27, is a suspect in the slayings of Chicago real estate tycoon Lee Miglin, two Minnesota men and the caretaker at a New Jersey cemetery. Cunanan is believed to have driven to Chicago from Minnesota in a red Jeep Cherokee owned by David Madson, 33, whose body was found at a lake outside Minneapolis. The body of Joseph Trail, 28, Bloomington, Minn., was found April 29 in Madson's Minneapolis loft. Police say Cunanan fled Chicago in Miglin's green Lexus sedan. That car was found in Pennsville, N.J., Friday night, near the body of cemetery caretaker William Reese. Reese's red pickup truck, with New Jersey license plate KH993D, is being sought nationwide. Bruce Kerchner, the owner of gay bookstore in San Diego, Calif., says he was misquoted in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune as saying Miglin's 25- year-old actor son, Duke, and Cunanan 'spent a lot of time together,' and 'were very close.' Kerchner says he was only repeating what he had heard. The Miglin family denies any connection with Cunanan. The New York Daily News says friends and crime experts think Cunanan may be heading to New York City, which has a large homosexual community. ---
