MLS: Revolution 2, Mutiny 1

FOXBORO, Mass., April 20 -- Substitute Darren Sawatzky's goal in the 77th minute Sunday night gave the New England Revolution a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Mutiny in their home opener. The game was the second half of a doubleheader at Foxboro Stadium following a World Cup qualifier between the United States and Mexico and drew 57,407.

Sawatzky, who entered in the 67th minute, ran a give-and-go with Chiquinho Conde, dumping the ball in to the 31 year-old forward, then firing the returned pass past goalkeeper Mark Dougherty. The Revolution (2-2) got on the board in the 27th minute when Albert Naveda scored on a breakaway, beating Dougherty from about eight yards out. The Mutiny (3-1) equalized in the 70th minute when Carlos Valderrama placed a corner kick to Joao Batista's, whose header glanced off the goalpost and into the net. The Tampa Bay loss left defending champion D.C. United as Major League Soccer's only unbeaten team at 4-0.
