NEW YORK, Jan. 2 -- Famous ex-wife Ivana Trump is launching a legal battle to get back the money she spent on a luxury yacht, plus millions more. The woman who was once married to casino tycoon and real-estate mogul Donald Trump says the $4 million vessel built by the Italian firm Cantieri Di Baia is falling apart.
She wants a full refund plus $35 million in damages for emotional distress. Her lawyer tells the Daily News that Trump is 'very upset' about the yacht, which bears her name. In the suit filed in Manhattan state Supreme Court on Monday, Trump's lawyers outline a series of problems that have supposedly plagued the vessel since she took possession in July 1995. The defects allegedly include a blistering and dangerously thin hull, a failing engine, and an exhaust system that sparked a fire. Trump also claims the yacht is 7 feet shorter than promised and doesn't travel at its top speed unless it's completely empty. The 98-foot yacht boasts four staterooms, marble baths, and a Jacuzzi. It's been in storage in Miami for a month because its safety certificate was revoked. Ivana Trump got divorced from Donald Trump in 1990, and she has since remarried. She has written several romance novels, done product endorsements, and taken cameo roles in movies. The lawsuit says the yacht debacle is damaging her 'internationally recognized persona.' ---
