Lorena Bobbitt meets Ecuador president

QUITO, Oct. 17 -- Ecuadorean Lorena Bobbitt, a resident of Virginia whose trial for cutting off her husband's penis led her to international renown, returned to her native Ecuador where she met Thursday with President Abdala Bucaram. Bobbitt declined to speak to reporters as she entered the Carondelet Palace in Quito for a two-hour meeting with Bucaram.

Bobbitt arrived from the United States on Tuesday, and on Saturday planned to attend a baptism in Guayaquil of Ecuadorean singer Silvana's daughter, to whom she and Bucaram will be godparents. Bobbitt, who in 1993 severed the sexual organ of her husband, a former U.S. Marine, became known worldwide following her widely publicized trial. She planned to visit her home town of Bucay before returning to Virginia next week.
