Frasier' star cited in accident

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Sept. 24 -- 'Frasier' star Kelsey Grammer has been forced to take the week off from his series to recuperate from minor injuries suffered when he flipped his sportscar on a rural road near his home. Grammer was driving his red Dodge Viper Saturday night on a two-lane road off Mulholland Highway when the car overturned a short distance from his driveway.

Rhett Price, a California Highway Patrol spokesman, said Grammer suffered only a cut on his forehead and minor bruises. Officers found the actor at a fire station about a mile from the accident scene, and decided to cite him for suspected drunken driving because they saw what Price called 'objective symptoms' that he had been drinking. The case has been turned over to the Agoura Hills City Attorney's Office for possibly filing of a misdemeanor charge. A criminal charge could mean jail time for Grammer because of his record. He was arrested in 1987 for drunken driving and was jailed in 1988 for cocaine possession. Paramount Television, producer of Grammer's Emmy-winning NBC series, said in a statement that Grammer 'suffered minor abrasions and is recovering at home this week.'
