Rapper killed in drive-by shooting

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 2 -- The violent streets that were the subject of his inner-city rap songs has claimed the life of musician Seagram Miller, police said Friday. Miller, 26, was identified by investigators as the man gunned down in a hail of bullets as he walked out of a van on a street corner about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The rapper was rushed to Highland Hospital where he died a short time later from multiple head wounds. A man with Miller was also wounded, but has told police he never saw the gunman. Homicide investigators said they were following several possible leads, including trying to see if there's a link to another attempted murder of Miller in 1993. In that instance, Miller was believed to have angered alleged drug kingpin Emanuel Lacy, who authorities believe ordered the hit. Miller's car was ambushed, but he was not wounded. However, the alleged assassin was chased by police officers, a shootout ensued and an officer was wounded. The gunman, Anthony Perryman, was in prison serving time for three counts of attempted murder. Meanwhile, Lucy is in custody awaiting trial on federal drug charges. Miller recorded for Wauzi Records under the name 'LB.' He last album, 'Reality Check,' was released in 1994.
