U.S. sets world mark in 4x100 medley relay

ATLANTA, July 26 -- The United States shattered its own world record in winning the gold medal in the men's 4x100 medley relay, clocking a time of 3:34.84 on the final night of swimming at the Olympic Games.

The U.S. team, comprised of Jeff Rouse, Jeremy Linn, Mark Henderson and Gary Hall Jr., smashed the mark of 3:36.93 set when the United States won the gold medal eight years ago in Seoul. That 1988 quartet consisted of David Berkoff, Richard Schroeder, Matt Biondi and Chris Jacobs. The triumph capped an Olympic swimming program which saw three world records broken at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
