PGA Tour Hall of Fame sets announced

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., July 25 -- The PGA Tour Policy Board has approved performance criteria and voting guidelines for the newly created PGA Tour Hall of Fame. Annual elections will be conducted for PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour players who meet the minimum competitive standards, as approved by the board. The first election will take place later this year. Those players elected in 1996 and 1997 will be inducted at the World Golf Hall of Fame upon its opening in 1998. A PGA Tour player first qualifies for the ballot if he has at least 10 victories in approved tournaments, or at least two victories among The Players Championship, Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship, is at least 40 years old and has been a member of the PGA Tour for a minimum of 10 years. A Senior Tour player is listed when he totals 20 victories in approved events on the PGA Tour or Senior Tour, or has at least five victories among The Players Championship, Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship, The Tradition, Ford Senior Players Championship, PGA Seniors Championship and the U.S. Senior Open, and has been a member of the Senior Tour for at least five years. A player who appeared on the ballot based on his PGA Tour record, but was not elected, may be placed on the ballot a second time by achieving either the 20-victory or five 'majors' level. In addition, the Policy Board has the authority to add one player per year to the ballot who does not meet all the criteria.
