Lucious Harris

PHILADELPHIA, July 23 -- The Philadelphia 76ers Tuesday signed free agent guard Lucious Harris. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Dallas Mavericks renounced the rights to Harris last Wednesday after signing free agent forward Chris Gatling to a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old Harris averaged 7.9 points and 1.3 assists per game, despite missing 18 games with a broken left wrist. He enjoyed his best month in March when he averaged 11.1 points over 21.4 minutes in 17 games. Harris had 21 games in which he scored double figures in points. 'Lucious Harris is a very good all-around player,' said 76ers general manager Brad Greenberg. 'Lucious can play either guard spot, shoot with range, create off the dribble for himself or others and defend big or small guards. He gives us experience, guard depth, and at 25 years old, another player we hope to have around for a long time.' During the 1994-95 season, Harris stepped into the starting lineup when Jim Jackson was injured and started 30 of the final 31 games, averaging 13.3 points in 29.7 minutes. He finished up that season averaging 9.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 79 games. Harris was a second-round pick of the Mavericks out of Long Beach State in 1993. The 76ers Monday renounced the rights to forward Tony Massenburg, who was acquired with Ed Pinckney from Toronto last February for forward Sharone Wright.
