Monkeys' wins three Saturns

LOS ANGELES, June 25 -- The futurist thriller '12 Monkeys' won three prizes Tuesday at the 22nd annual Saturn Awards, including best sci-fi film and best supporting actor for Brad Pitt. The drama also took home the costuming honor at the awards presented in Los Angeles by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, which also recognizes action-adventure movies.

Five other movies won two awards each. 'From Dusk Till Dawn' was named best horror film and star George Clooney won the best actor honor in his feature debut. Crime drama 'The Usual Suspects' was chosen best action- adventure/thriller and John Ottman won the best music honor. Angela Bassett's performance in 'Strange Days,' an apocalyptic story set two days before New Year's Eve 2000, received the best actress honor, and the movie also won the best director prize for Kathryn Bigelow. 'Jumanji' also won two awards, Bonnie Hunt's as best supporting actress and another for Stan Parks of Industrial Light and Magic for the movie's acclaimed special effects. 'Seven' won the writing award for Andrew Kevin Walker's script as well as best makeup for Jean Black and Rob Bottin. Barnyard fable 'Babe' was named best fantasy film, and the best younger actor award went to Christina Ricci of 'Casper.' The best TV presentation was 'Alien Nation,' and the best TV series was Showtime's revamped 'Outer Limits.' The Saturn Awards, televised occasionally in past years, were presented at a banquet at the Century City Park Hyatt Hotel. The ceremonies were taped for the academy's archives. Life Career Awards went to Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli, best known for bringing James Bond stories to the big screen, and Edward R. Pressman. The President's Awards were given to Bryan Singer and Robert Wise, and the George Pal Memorial Award to John Carpenter.
