NEW YORK, June 3 -- Jeff Bagwell of the Houston Astros Monday was named National League Player of the Month for May.
Bagwell batted .360 (36-for-100) with eight doubles, 10 home runs and 31 RBI in May to earn his fourth career Player of the Month award. The first baseman scored 22 runs, stole four and had a slugging percentage of .740. Montreal outfielder Henry Rodriguez finished second in the voting, which is done by a poll of writers and broadcasters. Outfielder Eric Davis of the Cincinnati Reds also received votes.
