VALLEJO, Calif., May 18 -- Authorities searched for clues Saturday into a homicide and kidnapping involving a young mother, whose body was found badly burned in an arson fire, and the disappearance of her infant son. 'We've got a 17-year-old victim who has obviously been murdered and her 4-week-old son is missing,' police Lt. Al Lehman said.
Investigators said there is no way the body of Daphne Boyden's baby could have been consumed by the fire late Friday at her home, so they believe the infant was kidnapped. 'The fire is not that extensive, basically it's just the living room,' Lehman said. A photo of Boyden's son, Le-Zhan Williams, was distributed to local newspapers and television stations as authorities began a massive search for the child. Meanwhile, the Solano County coroner began an autopsy on Boyden's body to determine whether she died in the fire or was killed before the fire was set, Lehman said. 'The fire is definitely arson, it's not an accident,' Lehman said. Boyden reportedly lived with her grandmother, who had left the home about a half-hour before the fire was reported to play bingo about 6:30 p.m. Authorities said no suspects had been immediately identified. Vallejo is located about 30 miles northeast of San Francisco.
