Scott is Magic from 3-point range

ORLANDO, Fla., April 18 -- Orlando forward Dennis Scott set an NBA record Thursday night with 11 three-pointers in the Magic's 119-104 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. He topped the mark of 10, set by teammate Brian Shaw, when he was with the Miami Heat, Dallas forward George McCloud and Detroit guard Joe Dumars.

McCloud was the last to hit 10 in a game, accomplishing the feat Dec. 16 in a 111-108 overtime loss to Phoenix. Scott, who finished with 35 points, set the record with a shot from the right wing with 5:15 to play. Less than a minute later, Scott left to a standing ovation. 'I really didn't know (about the record) until I made the 10th one,' Scott said. 'Then of course, Paul Porter (the public address announcer) announced it. I hate when he does things like that; you know when the Hawks started playing me. I was like, 'Why is he doing that?' But that's when I really knew how close I was.' He made 11 of 17 attempts from three-point range, hitting 3 of 4 in the first quarter, 1 of 2 in the second, 4 of 6 in the third and 3 of 5 in the fourth. 'Last year when I first got here, Dennis told me that he was going to get the three-point record and that I was to be the one to pass him the ball,' Shaw said. 'It's kind of ironic, but it happened tonight. He just grabbed me and said, 'Told you so,' and he said thanks for looking for him. 'I told Dennis it would be special to him, but they should have an asterisk by my name because it was the original distance.'
