MANILA, April 11 -- The Philippine Immigration Bureau said Thursday its agents and police from England have arrested a British fugitive wanted in the disappearance and alleged slaying of a Filipino woman and her British husband. Geoffrey Charles Paston was nabbed Wednesday in his home in Tacloban City, 370 miles (592 km) south of Manila, after months of surveillance.
Paston was found operating a nightclub and living with a Filipino woman. The British Embassy in Manila had sought the Immigration Bureau's help in locating and arresting Paston following leads he was in the Philippines. Immigration agent Vladimir Hernandez said Paston initially resisted arrest and was not able to present travel documents. The agents were accompanied by detectives Stephen Reynolds and William Simpkins from Essex, and Kevin McTavish of the Australian Federal Police. Immigration Commissioner Leandro Verceles said Paston would be summarily deported to face charges of killing last year China Rose Sims, the Filipino woman, and her British husband David Sims.
