Stars 5, Blues 2

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 6 -- Greg Adams scored a pair of second-period power-play goals Tuesday night and Grant Marshall also scored twice to power the Dallas Stars to a 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues, snapping their four-game winless streak. Joe Nieuwendyk had a goal and an assist and Derian Hatcher set up a pair of goals for the Stars, who are 1-3-1 in their last five games. Dallas, which improved to 1-2-1 against the Blues this season, recorded only its second divisional win (2-14-3). Allan Bester stopped 30 shots in his eighth consecutive start since being recalled from the minors. 'I played with confidence the whole game,' Bester said. 'The biggest thing as a goalie is to be there when the team needs me and to make the big saves. It doesn't matter how many saves you make the whole night.' '(Darcy) Wakaluk was going to play, but he's been having bad migraines that wouldn't settle down,' Stars' coach Ken Hitchcock said. 'Bester will play tomorrow.' Geoff Courtnall and Dale Hawerchuk had power-play goals for St. Louis, which dropped to 1-3-1 in its last five contests. Grant Fuhr made 23 saves in a losing effort. The Blues were coached by assistant Bob Berry becuase head coach and general manager Mike Keenan was attending the general managers' meetings in Arizona. 'There's a lot of complacency out there,' St. Louis winger Brett Hull said. 'There's no fear of losing a job, just a bunch of guys who go out and play and don't care if they score or don't score.

It's getting real old.' Nieuwendyk's sixth goal of the season 3:49 into the game and Marshall's eighth with 6:17 left in the period gave the Stars a 2-0 lead after the first period. Courtnall scored his 16th goal 2:51 into the second period to get the Blues within 2-1 but Adams scored the first of his two goals 3:06 later to restore the Stars' two-goal edge. 'I think sometimes at home, we're working too hard,' said Courtnall, whose team is 1-3-1 and has been outscored 20-10 in its last five home games. 'On the road, we seem to play a smart, disciplined game and wait for our opponents to make mistakes. At home, we're the ones making mistakes.' Adams took Nieuwendyk's pass on the right doorstep and had his shot stopped by goaltender Grant Fuhr. But the rebound caromed into the slot, where Adams controlled it and put a wrist shot past Fuhr's left side. 'This is a big win for us,' Adams said. 'We've been playing better lately. It's big to win in this building. They weren't pretty goals by any means. You go to the front of the net and battle to get opportunities.' Adams tallied his second power-play goal of the game with 33 seconds left in the period, making it 4-1. He one-timed Jere Lehtinen's pass by a moving Fuhr from the right side of the crease. Both of Adams' goals were scored when St. Louis was penalized for having too many men on the ice. Marhsall's second goal of the game 4:54 into the final period increased Dallas' lead to 5-1 before Hawerchuk's 12th goal less than two minutes later closed the scoring. St. Louis captain Shayne Corson left the game late in the third period with an apparent shoulder injury. Dallas center Guy Carbonneau appeared in his 1,000th NHL game and assisted on Marshall's first goal.
