Douglas traded for Day, Lister

BOSTON, Nov. 26 -- The Boston Celtics made room in a crowded backcourt by trading point guard Sherman Douglas to the Milwaukee Bucks Sunday for swingman Todd Day and center Alton Lister. The trade allows the Celtics to start Dana Barros, who was given a six-year, $21 million free agent contract prior to the season but had been coming off the bench.

Douglas joins a team which already has point guards Eric Murdock and Lee Mayberry. The 29-year-old Douglas played in all 10 games for the Celtics this season, averaging 9.8 points and 3.9 assists per game. He has averaged 13 points and 7.3 assists per game in his six-year career. Day, a 1992 first-round draft pick, played eight games for the Bucks, averaging 9.1 points per game. Lister, a veteran who has also played with Golden State and Seattle, played parts of seven games with just a 1.4 scoring average. 'Todd Day gives us another quality young player whose game should flourish in our stated up-tempo system,' Celtics coach and general manager M.L. Carr said. 'Alton Lister gives us an experienced big man. We appreciate the job Sherman did for us, however, with the addition of Dana Barros and the improvement that David Wesley has shown, our point guard situation is solidified.' Boston is hosting the Charlotte Hornets tonight and the Bucks are at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but none of the players involved in the trade will play. The Bucks used the open spot to activate center Kevin Duckworth from the injured list. Duckworth was acquired in a pre-season trade with the Washington Bullets. To make room on their roster, the Celtics waived center Charles Claxton.
