Stars' Cavallini retires

DALLAS, Nov. 7 -- Dallas Stars defenseman Paul Cavallini announced his retirement Tuesday after 10 seasons in the league. Cavallini finished his career with 56 goals and 177 assists in 564 games, with 750 penalty minutes.

In two-plus seasons with the Stars, Cavallini had 12 goals and 44 assists, with 116 penalty minutes in 126 games. He scored one of the most memorable goals in Stars history with an overtime goal to win Game 3 of the 1994 Western Conference quarterfinals in Dallas' four-game sweep of St. Louis. Cavallini signed with the Washington Capitals in 1986 and was traded to St. Louis in December 1987. He spent the next five seasons with the Blues and enjoyed his best year in 1990 when he led the league with a plus-minus rating of plus-38. He also played in the 1990 All-Star Game. Cavallini was traded back to Washington in 1992 and was dealt to Dallas in June 1993. He led the Stars with a plus-8 rating last season.
