CHILMARK, Mass., Oct. 5 -- Final preparations were being made Thursday for the celebrity wedding this weekend of actor Ted Danson and actress Mary Steenburgen on the Massachusetts resort island of Martha's Vineyard. The celebrity-studded guest list includes President Clinton and his family and a horde of movie and television stars.
A large security force will also be on hand to protect the guests from celebrity watchers. Danson and Steenburgen will get married Saturday at Danson's $1 million home in Chilmark. Among the 150 or so invited guests are Steenburgen's old friends from her native Arkansas -- President Clinton, his wife Hillary Rodham and daughter Chelsea. They are expected to arrive on the island off Cape Cod late Friday afternoon. Also expected to attend are actors Jack Nicholson, Kelsey Grammer, George Wendt and Tom Hanks, rocker Bruce Springsteen and singers Carly Simon and her former husband, James Taylor, the Boston Herald reported Thursday. Grammer and Wendt both starred with Danson on the long-running television hit comedy, 'Cheers.' The wedding rehearsal dinner will be held Friday night at the Beach Plum Inn in Menemsha, where Danson popped the question to Steenburgen. The event is not without controversy. The Clintons are being criticized by some for accepting free accommodations for the weekend from developer Richard Friedman, who has a stake in a proposed Wampanoag Indian-run gambling casino in Massachusetts that still needs federal approval. The White House says there is nothing illegal about the arrangement, the Herald reported.
