DENVER, Sept. 20 -- President Clinton on Wednesday harshly criticized the Calvin Klein clothing advertisements, which were pulled because critics said the way the young people were used in the spreads was tantamount to child pornography.
'It's outrageous, they were outrageous,' Clinton said. 'It is wrong to manipulate these children for commercial benefit.' It was the first time Clinton reacted to the ads, which were pulled after the clothing designer was hit by wave upon wave of criticism for the way the children were portrayed in the spreads. The ads appeared in major magazines, on television and on the sides of buses across the country.
