Rubin defends strong-dollar policy

NEW YORK, Aug. 17 -- Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin has praised the surging value of the U.S. dollar in international currency markets. The New York Times quoted Rubin (Thursday) as dismissing concerns that the dollar's appreciation might weaken sales of U.S. exports. He said 'it is the height of unsound policy to devalue yourself into competitiveness.'
