Colorado's NHL team to be Avalanche

DENVER, Aug. 10 -- Colorado's National Hockey League franchise, formerly the Quebec Nordiques, will be called the Colorado Avalanche.

The name, logo and color scheme for the team was announced Thursday by team Executive President Shawn Hunter in a news conference at the Westin Tabor Center Hotel in Denver. The logo will feature a color scheme of burgundy, silver, blue and black. The Quebec NHL franchise was purchased by Comsat Entertainment Group for $75 million May 25 and was relocated to Denver for the upcoming season. The team will play its first game in Colorado on Oct. 6 against the Detroit Red Wings at McNichols Arena.
