ARLINGTON, Texas, July 31 -- The Texas Rangers Monday signed veteran pitcher Danny Darwin to a minor league contract. The 39-year-old righthander signed with Oklahoma City of the Triple-A American Association and will start for the 89ers Tuesday night against Iowa.
Darwin signed with the Toronto Blue Jays as a free agent prior to the season and was released July 18 after 13 games, going 1-8 with a 7.62 ERA. The veteran pitcher returns to the Ranger organization where he was Pitcher of the Year in 1980 (13-4, 2.62 ERA). Darwin has also pitched for for Milwaukee, Houston and Boston. The Rangers also added outfielder Lou Frazier to their major league roster. Frazier was acquired from Montreal on Sunday for a player to be named. To make room on the roster, pitcher Terry Burrows was optioned to Oklahoma City.
