MILFORD, Ohio, May 3 -- Bill Means, a systems engineering manager at suburban Cincinnati's Structural Dynamics Research Corp. proudly took his 8-year-old child to work last Thursday for national Bring Your Daughter to Work Day -- only to be fired and escorted from the building she watched. Means, 42, West Chester, said he can't talk about his termination but his wife, Daileen, 43, told United Press International Wednesday it was a 'traumatic' experience for their daughter, Marisa.
'They (management) came to his desk to escort him from the building. Would it have to be written in stone that they couldn't postpone it until Friday?' asked Mrs. Means. 'They knew Thursday was the day in which daughters were invited to work. She (Marisa) was in shock.' Mrs. Means said her husband was not allowed to take anything with him and had to return that evening to collect his personal belongings. She said her husband thought the purpose of a Thursday morning meeting was to discuss employee morale at the software firm but, instead, his supervisor told him his job was being eliminated. SDRC Senior Vice President for Human Resources Edward Neenan told UPI the company feels 'very bad' about the incident. 'The timing was unfortunate and we had no idea his daughter was with him at work,' Neenan said.
