Stones star pays $1 nillion for horse

By TOM ANDERSON

SYDNEY, Feb. 24 -- Rolling Stones rock star Charlie Watts has paid an estimated $1 million for an Australian bred Arabian stallion, the former owner disclosed Friday in Sydney. Marion Richmond the owner of the Simeon Arabian Stud in Sydney told United Press International, Friday, that Watts has paid around $1 million for the 5-year-old Sydney bred Arabian stallion Simeon Sadik.

'The deal was finalised this week and we have been paid in full for the horse,' Richmond said. 'The new owners dow not want the purchase price revealed, but I can say that it is a million dollar deal.' Richmond also said that arrangements were being made to fly the stallion to England in April, where it will be headquartered at Watts Arabian stud farm in Devon. She also said the prize horse was spotted by Watts stud manager Paul Atkinson when he was in Australia in January. 'Paul took a video of the horse back to England and showed Charlie and they offered us a price for the animal, which we accepted,' Richmond said. 'Seemingly Watts and his wife Shirley love Arabian horses.' Watts will come to Australia with the Rolling Stones later this year and will finalize arrangements for flight of his new purchase back to England in April. Watts is the latest in a long line of international buyers who have purchased horses. 'Our horses are very much sought after and recently we sold two to a sheikh in Abu Dabi for racing,' she said. 'And, Princess Alia of Jordan bought a lovely filly from us last year which she keeps with her in her palace.'
