BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 22 -- Polish President Lech Walesa met Wednesday with his Argentine counterpart Carlos Menem during a 36-hour visit to Buenos Aires, Foreign Ministry officials said.
Walesa is the first Polish president to visit Argentina, although Menem visited Warsaw in 1990 when Wojciech Jaruzelski was president of Poland. A Foreign Ministry spokesmen said the two examined bilateral relations and the international situation during the meeting, and planned to sign a series of bilateral agreements later in the day. Walesa also held discussions with Argentine congressional leaders and Supreme Court justices. He was scheduled to fly to Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital, on Thursday.
