Esquire mag brings back 40s Varga Girl

NEW YORK, Aug. 25 -- A glamourous pinup of the 1940s is making a comeback, Esquire said Thursday in announcing the return of the exquisitely painted Varga Girl.

'Our 1990s Varga Girl will be beauiful, feminine, sexy and sweet,' said Edward Kosner, the magazine's editor-in-chief. 'These images won't remotely resemble the nude centerfolds in some other magazines. Today's top supermodels and actresses will pose for the new Varga pinups.' Model Amber Smith was chosen for the November issue debut. Kosner said the lavishly painted images of women in clingy, wispy garments the Varga Girls wore help connect readers with the magazine's tradition of glamour and sophistication. However, the announcement said the actual images are being made by photographer Timothy White using state-of-the-art computer enhancement.
