Clippers and Blazers to open NBA season in Japan

NEW YORK, July 7 -- The National Basketball Association Thursday announced that the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers will open the 1994-95 regular season with two games in Japan. The Clippers and Trail Blazers will meet Nov. 5 and 6 at Yokohama Arena.

The first game will be televised by TNT as part of its season- opening doubleheader on Friday night, Nov. 4. The series will mark the NBA head coaching debut of Portland's P.J. Carlesimo, formerly of Seton Hall University. The Clippers are in the process of hiring a head coach. It will mark the third time that the NBA has openedits season with games in Japan. Phoenix and Utah opened the 1990-91 season in Tokyo and Houston and Seattle started the 1992-93 campaign with a pair of games in Yokahama. The complete 1994-95 schedule will be announced later this month.
