Belfast army barracks hit by mortars

LONDON, July 2 -- A number of mortars have been fired at a Royal Irish Ranger station in south Belfast, police in Northern Ireland said Saturday.

A Royal Ulster Constabulary spokesman said the mortars were fired at the Royal Irish Ranger base in Belfast's Malone Road. The use of mortars suggested the Irish Republican Army was responsible, he said. The area was sealed off by the RUC.
