MANILA, May 13 -- Actress Stephanie Beacham of 'Dynasty' fame heads the list of eight judges who will pick the 1994 Miss Universe in Manila May 21, organizers said Friday.
The organizers had hoped for a more stellar cast, but busy schedules prohibited a number of stars from judging the contest.
Also appearing in the list were actress Beulah Quo, former Miss Universe Mona Grudt of Norway, Grammy-winner Florence LaRue, movie director Jonas McCord, Colombian dress designer Carlos Zapata and hairdresser Richard Dalton.
Filipino newspaper publisher Emilio Yap will represent the lone judge for the host country.
'It is difficult to get people to commit to not only the five or six days that the pageant takes place but the significant amount of travel time also required,' Miss Universe Inc. president Martin Brooks told reporters.
'People such as Tom Cruise, Sharon Stone, Sylvester Stallone, all of those people we would like to have as judges, cannot make it as they are working,' Brooks said.
Judges will be choosing from a field of 77 women from all over the world and will be evaluating candidates for their 'intelligence, appearance and overall personality,' organizers said. The finals will be held on May 21.
