Death of trooper's ex-wife a suicide

SHERWOOD, Ark., May 13 -- Police said Friday they have found nothing out of the ordinary in the apparent suicide of the ex-wife of an Arkansas state trooper who is a co-defendant in a sexual harrassment suit against President Clinton.

Kathy Ferguson, 37, was found dead early Wednesday in her boyfriend's home in the Little Rock suburb of Sherwood, Ark.

She had been shot in the right temple.

She was the former wife of trooper Danny Ferguson, who was a member of Clinton's security force when Clinton was governor of Arkansas.

Former state employee Paula Jones has accused Danny Ferguson of inviting her to a 1991 meeting with Clinton in a hotel room during which she claims Clinton made unwanted sexual advances.

Sherwood authorities and the Pulaski County coroner's office said there was no known connection between Kathy Ferguson's death and her ex- husband's situation.

A note believed written by the woman and found near the body indicated that she and her boyfriend, Sherwood police officer Bill Shelton, had been having problems in their relationship.

Another note apparently written by Shelton to Ms. Ferguson questioned her relationship with another man.

It was Shelton who found the body. He called authorities, and the body was sent to the state crime lab for a routine autopsy.

'It is just a routine investigation, that's all,' said Ray Snider, a spokesman for the Sherwood Police Department.
