United Artists enters Singapore

DENVER, April 14 -- United Artists, the largest motion picture exhibitor in the world, announced Thursday that it would build three theatres inthe mixed-use development project, The Bugis Junction in Singapore.

The first project of its kind in Singapore, The Bugis Junction Project integrates traditional architecture with a modern shopping complex, a department store, a five-star hotel, an office block and three United Artists theatres with more than 1,100 seats.

'We are excited about launching United Artists in Singapore and are particularly happy to have found the ideal location in The Bugis Junction Project for our new venture,' said Stewart Blair, United Artists chairman and chief executive officer.

'Our new cinema in Bugis Junction will incorporate the latest cinema technology including very plush seats with cupholder armrests on every chair,' said Thomas Elliot, executive vice president, International of United Artists Theatre Circuit. 'All three of our auditoriums will be very large with the best digital surround sound available.'

The Bugis Junction is being developed by Bugis City Holdings Pte Ltd, a joint venture between Straits Parco Retail Management Pte Ltd and Parco Bugis Junction.

United Artists operates 2,237 screens in 427 theatres in the United States, Puerto Rico and Hong Kong.
