Singapore wins bid for Rotary convention

SINGAPORE, MARCH 26 -- The Singapore Tourist Promotion Board announced Saturday that it will host the Rotary International convention, one of the largest conventions in the world in 1999 with an expected participation of 25,000 people.

The four-day Annual Convention for Rotary International will be held at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Center in June 1999.

Announcing the successful bid, Pek Hock Thiam, executive director of the tourism board, said the event would reinforce Singapore's reputation as a leading convention city.

The event is expected to generate $82 million.
