NEW YORK, March 14 -- Free agent defensive lineman Donald Evans Monday signed a three-year contract with the New York Jets worth a reported $3.45 million.

The 6-2, 275-pound Evans, who turned 30 Monday, has 14 1/2 sacks in four seasons.

He was drafted in the second round in 1987 by the Los Angeles Rams as a fullback out of Winston-Salem State. Evans was switched to linebacker before playing the last four seasons as a right defensive end.

'Donald will bring stability and productivity to our defense,' Jets head Coach Pete Carroll said. 'Over the past two seasons he has had some very productive seasons with Pittsburgh.'
