Pitino suspends three Kentucky players

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Three University of Kentucky basketball players Tuesday were suspended for one game for their part in a free throw shooting controversy in Saturday's victory over Vanderbilt.

Head coach Rick Pitino suspended starting guard Travis Ford, starting forward Jared Prickett and reserve center Gimel Martinez for Wednesday's game against Southeastern Conference rival Tennessee.

Twice during Saturday's 77-69 win over Vanderbilt, the wrong Kentucky player went to the foul line for free throw attempts. After the incidents were pointed out to Pitino, he called a meeting Monday to determine if the switches were intentional.

'I am suspending them for violating the integrity of the game,' Pitino said. 'The players did not maliciously try to hurt Vanderbilt's chances, but they tried to take advantage of a confused situation.'

Tennessee is 2-10 in the SEC and 5-17 overall.
