Nuggets aquire Williams

DENVER -- The Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic completed a trade Thursday night that sent forward Brian Williams to Denver for guard Todd Lichti and forward Anthony Cook.

The Nuggets get the six-foot-10 Williams, who played two seasons for Orlando after being drafted 10th overall in the 1991 NBA draft.

Williams fractured a bone in his right hand and spent most of the first half of last season on the injured list before returning in April.

Williams averaged 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game last season.

Lichti, a six-foot-four guard drafted out of Stanford with the 15th pick in the 1989 draft by Denver, averaged 8.1 points with the Nuggets.

Cook missed all of last season with a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee and has averaged 4.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 80 career games with Denver. Cook was drafted with the 24th pick by Phoenix in 1989 and has spent time with the Pistons and a team in Greece.

'We knew we had our work cut out for us in creatively finding signing options for our number one pick (Anfernee Hardaway),' said director of Player Personnel for the Magic John Gabriel.
