Chambers joins Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Jazz announced the signing Thursday of free agent forward Tom Chambers.

The signing was announced by Director of Basketball Operations Scott Layden.

The club did not disclose terms of the contract.

The four-time All-Star is a veteran of 12 NBA seasons, the last five with the Phoenix Suns. The 6-foot-10 Chambers has averaged 20 points and 6.6 rebounds in his career. He was the Most Valuable Player of the 1987 All-Star Game in Seattle, when he was a member of the SuperSonics. Chambers is sixth among active players with 18,628 points.

Chambers, 34, was a first-round draft choice of the San Diego Clippers in 1981 and was the eighth overall choice out of the University of Utah. He played two seasons with the Clippers then signed with Seattle in 1983, playing five seasons with the SuperSonics.

Chambers signed with the Suns in 1988 as an unrestricted free agent and holds the club single-game scoring record with 60 points against Seattle March 24, 1990. He also holds the club single-game playoff mark with 41 points against the Los Angeles Lakers May 28, 1989.

Chambers averaged 12.2 points in 73 games for Phoenix last season and averaged 7.3 points in 24 playoff games as the Suns went to the NBA Finals.
